This study was the first to investigate the effect of The Daily Mile on mental health and self-esteem. 550 children aged 8-13 years from 7 schools in Flanders took part. The investigation was carried out via questionnaires completed before, during and after their Daily Mile.

Results showed significant improvement in self-worth and for children with low baseline scores, other self-perception aspects. Parents also reported reductions in behavioural difficulties including hyperactivity, relationships with peers and emotional symptoms.
